The 40+Fishing Boat Association is was founded in 1995 by Mike Smylie and Michael Craine. It is an organisation for anyone with an interest in fishing boats. As one member who owns a boat says 'It is nice to know that I am not the only nutter dedicated to the preservation of these graceful boats.'

From a few vague memories or a photo the association can help to piece together the identity and history of an old boat.

Do you remember that wee boat, now where did she come from? You know, wasn't she crewed by a load of old boys, the youngest a cook in his 60's? She fished from here for years. She'd be out in all weathers and if they could they would always give you a fry. I remember her well.

40+FBA is also interested in tales and anecdotes about fishing and fishing boats, such as these 1970s trawlers.

Many members are dedicated to the restoration of their own piece of maritime history. Many would have thought the Master Frank, below, was a hopeless case, but click on the photo to find out what was achieved with her.
