Boat Fishing

The Isle of Man offers some of the finest boat fishing found around the British Isles. All you need to take part in this experience is of coarse a boat! Most of the harbours around the Island are tidal, meaning they drain when the tide retreats. If your boat is on a trailer, slipway access is very easy with wide and clean slipways at most harbours.

Off the south coast of the Island you will find fast tides and deep waters, the ideal home of the big fish such as conger, ling, cod, pollack and pout. The west coast offers relatively shallow waters where you will find most of the 'bin lid' species (flat fish). The east coast upto Ramsey offers the greatest variety of species and the north coast being similar to the west offers a mixed bag.

Here are a few pictures of some Boat fishing venues around the Laxey area

click here Bulgham Bay, just north of Laxey. Fishing the bay itself is not very productive, but fishing the point as seen in the picture will see Pollack (callig) upto double figures. The way to fish this spot is by free lining a sandeel whilst drifting along the rock face 100 to 200 yards out.
click here Bulgham Bay again, this time 400 to 500 yards off the site of the old tip, here you will catch flatties and the odd pollack
click here The approach to Laxey Harbour, over sand here, so flatties will be caught on the bottom using worm baits.
click here Another point just north of Laxey, this is the sort of coast you can expect to see while motoring north, all good for pollack using a free lined sandeel or trolling a rubber eel, oh, look out for the goats!
